Hello golfers,
Jordan Spieth became a victim of the European Tour's new policy on slow play when he was told by rules officials late in his first round at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last week that he had taken too long to putt on the eighth green, his 17th hole. He was told on the ninth tee that he had incurred a "monitoring'' penalty under a new system that went into place last week. Any further bad times this season will see Spieth receive a fine of £2,000 which will then increase for any subsequent transgressions. It is refreshing to see the European Tour taking a firmer stance on slow play which I known has been a hot topic amongst Pros and Amateurs alike in recent years. The tournament was won by American youngster Rickie Fowler who took the title with a 16 under par total.
Despite the temperatures rising towards the end of last week and the cold spell ending, we unfortunately had to close the course for a few days even though conditions appeared to improve. Course Manager Simon Osborne says "When there has been a prolonged frost which has penetrated below the surface and it starts to thaw from the top, the underneath can often remain frozen. Feet walking over the surface under these conditions will cause the roots to be sheared off causing severe damage to the grass which takes years to repair". We thank you for your patience when the conditions are changeable at this time of the year, the end winner will be the golf course come the summer months!
Finally, please keep an eye on both the scrolling bar on the club website and the club's twitter feed (@cuddingtongc) for the latest course information. These will be updated by 7.30am at the latest during the winter months if the weather has caused any change in the course status.
We look forward to seeing you at the club this week.
Handicapping System Change
Recently we have begun the switch from Club2000 to Intelligent Golf. This means as of now any future competitions will not show on Howdidido.co.uk, and they will only show on Intelligent Golf. Intelligent Golf will be available through the club website shortly, all members will receive the web address and login details for their Intelligent Golf account within the next few weeks. This new system is a more reliable and user friendly which as time progresses will give you easier access to your handicap record with added functionality. If you have any questions or queries then please do not hesitate to contact the pro shop.

All Scotty Cameron putters are precision milled to meet the standards of the world's best putters for looks, sound and feel and are used by many of the world's top players including Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott and Ian Poulter. Come and try one for yourself!
Titleist Demo Stock
Over the last week or so we have now received all of the components for our Titleist fitting cart, including the 915 range of woods, 816 hybrids and 716 irons. The 915 woods and 816 hybrids incorporate Titleist's new ARC (Active Recoil Channel) technology which provides more distance on off-centre strikes. The 716 irons have seen a redistribution of tungsten in the clubhead to provide the optimum launch angles to maximise distance while also increasing the moment of inertia which translates into straighter shots. All of these items are now available for custom fitting sessions which can be done in the swing studio. Please click here to contact the pro shop to book your session!
Bushnell Price Drop
We still have limited stock of the current Bushnell range which has seen a price reduction in recent weeks. You can now pick up the Tour V3 model for £245 the popular Neo XS watch for £130 and the Neo Ghost unit for £95. All models are available in the pro shop if you wish to either try them out or compare each model side by side.
