Hello golfers,
After last week's nine automatic qualifiers were finalised, European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke completed the side yesterday after announcing his three captain's picks. As widely expected he chose Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer with in-form rookie Thomas Pieters (who won last week's European Tour Event in Denmark) securing the last spot. His 12 man team will take on the USA at the end of September at Hazeltine looking to win a fourth successive Ryder Cup.
There are many events coming up shortly at the club which are now open for entries. On Saturday, 17 September we have the annual English vs. Celts match. Entry costs £35 per person which includes golf, arrival drinks, a two course dinner followed by entertainment from a Comedian. Captain's Day is scheduled this year for Saturday, 1 October. The entry fee is £30 per player which again includes golf (teams of four with the best two scores counting), prizes and a two course buffet lunch. To enter either event please add your name to the sign-in sheets on the main noticeboard or simply click here to send us an email.
In less than a months' time myself, Chris, Luan and Andrew will be taking part in an event called Tough Mudder, which is a 12 mile run interspersed with some gruelling obstacles, click here to view a video and learn more. We are aiming to raise as much money as possible for this year's Captain's Charity, The Institute of Cancer Research. If you would like to sponsor us you can do so either in person in the pro shop or click here to visit our Just Giving page.
Kind Regards,
Paul Schunter
Director of Golf & Operations
Start times
To alleviate congestion on the first tee on mid-week competition days, we will be trialling some amended tee times for the next scheduled event on Wednesday, 14 September. By releasing some of the underutilised competitor's only times in the morning, we hope to reduce the amount of games forced to start on the 10th tee that have to filter in with those starting on the 1st tee after nine holes. To view the amended times please click here.

Vokey and Scotty Cameron Fitting Day
Many thanks to those of you who attended our Vokey and Scotty Cameron Fitting Day last Friday. I think without exception everyone that attended benefited from finding either a wedge or putter that suited their style of play. If you were unable to attend, but would like to know more about finding the right fit for your short game clubs, please visit us in the pro shop for more information.
