Hello golfers,

As a period of cold and frosty weather has taken hold, it made watching the European Tour players competing in sunny Abu Dhabi all the more difficult. In a fantastic Sunday afternoon shootout, England's Tommy Fleetwood finished top of a packed leaderboard which included world number three Dustin Johnson who finished one shot back. This was Fleetwood's second European Tour win and was just reward for his incredibly consistent performances of late - his last missed cut was in the first week of July 2016 and in the 13 events since then he has only finished outside of the top 15 twice.

This week sees the beginning of another part of the winter programme, with some of the surfaces around the clubhouse being re-tarmacked. First up is the road down to the greenkeeper's compound, with the paths around the clubhouse to follow at the end of February.

Please note that entries for both the Men's Annual Singles and the Dainty Cup close this Friday, 27 January, with the draws taking place early the next day. To enter please add your name to the sign-in sheet on the main noticeboard, or if you are unable to make it to the club in person please reply to this email.

Kind Regards,
Paul Schunter
Director of Golf & Operations

A fond farewell...

Members will be saddened to learn of the passing for Alan "Ginger" Green earlier this month, who was the Bar Manager at Cuddington for some 20 years. An ex-flat racing jockey, Alan was not great in stature, indeed the call for a box on wheels was often mooted much to his amusement, however woe betide anyone who thought they might survive any indiscretions in "his" bar. Anything from improperly dressed to "I'm just passing" through were given short shrift. During his time at Cuddington, Alan was responsible for maintaining the high standards which were expected, for me personally it was a relief to know that the bar was in "good hands" when Alan was on duty.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, 31 January from 12.30pm at Randall's Crematorium and afterwards at The Rubbing House, Epsom Downs.

Social Events

A new year means plenty more chances to enjoy one of the many social events we have lined up at Cuddington this year, including:

  • There are still spaces available for this Friday's Burns Night. Traditional Burns Fayre will be served followed by some Ceilidh-Scottish Country Dancing. Tickets cost £35 per person - the wearing of kilts is optional but highly encouraged.
  • This year's Men's Annual Dinner will take place on Friday, 3 February. The black tie event will include a three course meal followed by entertainment from comedian Ian Irving. The event is open to members and their guests with tickets costing £50 per person.
  • Valentine's Dinner - Friday, 10 February. Celebrate the most romantic day of the year with a welcome drink, three course dinner and live music. Starting at 7pm, tickets cost £35 per person with members and guests welcome.
  • There are now only four tickets remaining to see The Girls at The Phoenix Theatre in May. The Girls is the true story of the Yorkshire Calendar Girls, a group of ordinary ladies who achieved something extraordinary. This new musical comedy brings together the writing talents of Gary Barlow and Tim Firth (Calendar Girls, Kinky Boots), who grew up in the same village in the North of England, and have been friends for 25 years. The cost per person including a return coach, two course evening supper and theatre ticket is £65 per person. To book the remaining tickets please email the office (click here to get in touch).

New Driver Testing

During the course closures recently, Chris headed into the Swing Studio to test some of the newest drivers that have been released onto the market this year. In the test he compared the Titleist 917D2 and D3, the TaylorMade M1 and M2 as well as the Callaway GBB Epic and Epic Sub-Zero models. The results were interesting to say the least, you can took a look at what he found by clicking here.

Titleist Trial BagsTitleist Trial Sets

Titleist have come up with a fantastic promotion for 2017, which I'm sure will be popular over the coming months. We have two complete sets of Titleist products which are available to use on the course to allow you to get a feel for their current range of products including the new 917 drivers and fairways. One set contains AP1 irons and regular shafts, and the other AP2 irons with stiff shafts. For more information or to take a set onto the course please speak to a member of the pro shop team.

TaylorMade has arrived!

TaylorMadeI am pleased to say that our TaylorMade demo stock has now arrived and is ready for custom fitting, before they officially launch at the end of January. The range includes the updated M1 and M2 drivers, fairways and hybrids, along with the M2 irons. With many of the world's best players putting the new woods and irons into play immediately, there is no doubt that this year's M family of products will be very popular.

To book your custom fitting session or to try one any of the clubs out on the course please speak to one of the pro shop team or click here to send us an email.

EpicIt's time to get Epic!

In a bumper week of deliveries, we have also received our fitting kit for the new Callaway Epic driver which has been put into play by Rory McIlroy for this week's South African Open. The Epic driver boats many new technological advances, and in particular it benefits from new Jailbreak Technology, which essentially changes the way the head and clubface behave at impact to deliver more ball speed and distance. Jailbreak is two strong titanium bars behind the face, parallel to each other and connected on either end to the crown and sole. The size, strength and location of each Jailbreak bar work together to reduce how much the crown and sole deflect, forcing the face to take on more of the load created at impact than ever before. This results in faster ball speeds across the entire face offering more consistent distances, even on miss-hits.

To book your custom fitting session or to try one any of the clubs out on the course, please speak to one of the pro shop team or click here to send us an email.
