Hello golfers,
Once again this year's Masters didn't disappoint, with some fantastic golf being played at Augusta National. Spain's Sergio Garcia finally broke his duck in a Major at the 74th attempt, defeating Justin Rose at the first extra play-off hole. It was great to see two of the game's best players match each other shot for shot over the famous back nine, although no one can deny that Garcia deserved his victory after so many near misses in the past.
Our juniors have once again been setting local and national events alight, with no fewer than seven of our members scoring 39 points or better in the Rookie League Event at Puttenham. Freddie Gannon was the best placed in the boys section with 45 points, while Chewon Cho and Herry Ji finished first and second respectively in the girls section. On Monday, the Fairways Trophy Team claimed another title for the junior section beating Kingswood 5 - 1 in the final. At a national level, Enrique Dimayuga (pictured - bottom left) made a winning start in his debut representing England U'16s in a quadrangular match this week at Prestatyn Golf Club in Wales. Further matches against Ireland and Wales follow in the coming days after England won their opening match 9.5 - 2.5 versus the Netherlands. Well done to all our juniors, keep up the good work and this winning streak.
A reminder to you all that this Friday, 14 April will remain a normal Friday as far as tee times are concerned, meaning it is open to both five and seven day members. Easter Monday, 17 April will be run as a weekend day, with a tee sheet available on the main club noticeboard for morning start times.
As we approach the busier times of the year, I would like to ask all members to be diligent in repairing both pitchmarks and divots on the course. This coupled with keeping trollies on the designated pathways near the greens will allow Simon and his team to keep the course in pristine condition throughout the summer months.
Kind Regards,
Paul Schunter
