Hello golfers,
Next week is possibly the busiest at the club all year with the Pro-Am, PGA Southern Open and Surrey Mid-Amateur Championship all taking place within six days. This year's Pro-Am boasts an increased prize find of £9,000, which coupled with the Southern Open the following day has ensured the strongest field of professionals possible. Please see the important note in the email below regarding the tee reservations these events.
On Monday we hosted the Surrey Schools Championship, with over 60 juniors with handicaps between +1 and 32 taking part. There was some fantastic scoring, including a superb bogey free gross 63 (-8) from Enrique Dimayuga which is a new course record - well played Enrique! He was part of the winning team from St. Andrews School in Leatherhead, which also included another Cuddington member Ben Partridge. They will now proceed to the National Finals.
With such a busy week ahead of us, please can all members keep an eye on pitchmarks on the greens to ensure the putting surfaces remain pristine over the coming days.
Kind Regards,
Paul Schunter
Director of Golf & Operations.

Simon’s Course Update
It's that time of year when we tournament prep the course for the Pro-Am, Surrey Mid-Am and Southern Pros events. To provide a smooth putting service we did a sand top dressing around 10 days before the big day. Then we work on speeding the greens up to stimp reading of 10.5 ft. to 11ft. Starting a week before the tournament, we double cut the greens at the existing height of cut of 2.7mm daily. On the actual competition days we also vibratory roll the greens, as well as double cut.
So that's the cutting programme, but we also have to consider our nutrient inputs. Lush emerald coloured greens don't lend themselves for a good tournament green. Therefore a very small amount of liquid fertiliser and other ameliorants are applied a week before, just enough to enable the sward to be as stress free as possible for the tournament. Three days before the off, an application of silicone is applied which forces the leaf to stand upright so a clean cut can be obtained on tournament days.
You might be thinking why we can't provide tournament greens on a daily basis. Well to put it simply the greens would very quickly stress out with this sort of punishment and would eventually give up the ghost. We hope you enjoy the playing surfaces over the coming weeks!
