Hello golfers,

156 of them world’s best players will tee it up at Royal Birkdale tomorrow for the 146th Open Championship. Picking a winner is proving particularly difficult, with many of the top ranked players struggling for consistency coming into the event. I think the stage may be set for another first time winner, with Rickie Fowler and Tommy Fleetwood showing major winning form in recent weeks. Good luck to all who have entered our Open Sweepstake, those picking players in the top five will receive prizes, with any ties being decided on countback by the players final round scores.

Later this month we will be hosting a new and updated version of FootJoy’s shoe fitting days which have been popular in the last few years. FootJoy have now developed a system whereby they can recommend the right style of shoe design from their choice of structured soles (DryJoys/ICONS), dual soles (D.N.A., Contour) or mobile soles (Hyperflex, Superlight). Tests have shown that by matching the right sole design for your swing can improve your interaction with the ground and in turn increase club head speed. Appointments are available between the Tuesday, 1 August and Friday, 11 August.

Finally, please will all members note that the 19th bar area will be closed between Monday, 14 August and Thursday, 17 August so that work to remedy the acoustics in this area can take place. During this time the dress code in the lounge area will be relaxed so that golf shoes can be worn as the spike bar is closed. We thank you for your patience while this work takes place.

Junior Team

Our Junior team had another successful victory at the weekend winning 5-1 against Farleigh Court in their first leg of the Semi-final of the Fairways Trophy. Well done to the team of Lucas and Austin Gambel, Oliver Bright, Kris Kim, Oscar Lent and Edward Dimayuga for a fine team performance. Congratulations also go to Dexter Daly who has reached the Final of Surrey Junior Boys Handicap Knockout. He will face Cameron Cridge from Addington Palace in the Final later this summer – good luck Dexter!
