Dear members,

I write this after returning from giving a golf lesson. It’s now the middle of November... yes, the middle of November and there is blossom appearing again on some of our trees. It really is very mild!

Those of you that have played recently will have noticed that most of our long rough has now been cut back for the winter and many of our course maintenance projects are well underway. The new 7th tee is taking shape and the temporary tee is being played with again as we try and find a better solution for the duration of the improvements.

This week the European Tour's “Race to Dubai” draw to a close at the DP World Tour Championships in Dubai. Ross is playing and looking for a strong final event as he is still currently 6th in the Order of Merit.

Is 'ready golf' the way forward?

Earlier this year the R&A and USGA released a proposed set of rules changes in an effort to bring the rulebook up to date. This week we’re going to look at one of the modifications that has been proposed to help improve our pace of play.

Why change?
The time it takes to play 18 holes is a hot topic and it’s one of the primary reasons many people give as to why they don’t play as much or even at all. Let’s face it, nobody wants a long round, so anything that promotes faster golf is surely a positive?

Try ready golf
‘Ready golf’ is something many of you will already do during social games. It is when a player plays out of turn in stroke play because they’re ready and it's safe to hit, rather than wait longer to play in turn. This will be actively encouraged during competitions in the new rulebook. We think it’s a good idea, do you agree?
