Things are certainly hotting up with as we head into the peak part of the golf season, fortunately we look like we are going to be blessed with some gorgeous weather which is long overdue! In the past seven days we have held both the Men's and Ladies Invitationals and on Sunday, 12 July we of course have this year's Pro-Am competition. Roll in the 144th Open at St. Andrews the week after along with plenty of matches and competitions at the club and the next few weeks are really starting to look like something to look forward to.
Men's Invitation Day
On Sunday we had close to 70 competitors take part in this year's Men's Invitational. Despite the odd shower nothing could dampen the atmosphere on the day and certainly didn't dampen the scoring. The winners on the day were Ian Twydell and his guest Ian Martin (pictured) who clocked up an impressive 48 points to win the morning betterball competition by four from Neil Turk and his father Keith. In the afternoon 9 hole Texas Scramble there was again some low scoring with the teams of Peter Heath, Wayne Alderman, Simon Bale, Mike Harvey and Andy Stokoe, Ben Stokoe, Peter Gallagher and David Taylor scooping the winning prizes on each side. Many thanks to all those who attended and made the day such a success.
Congratulations go to Terry Deeley (pictured), who achieved a hole in one on the 13th during Monday's Vets match vs. Surrey Downs!
Ladies Invitational
Yesterday saw close to 50 competitors take part in this year's Ladies Invitational Day where they enjoyed some fabulous weather. As in the men's event the scoring was very good with the pairing of Christine Snelling and her guest Helen Furmineer claiming top spot after an impressive 46 point total. They were closely followed by Kate Brown and Ann Colbourn who had 44 points, with Helen Moore and her guest Carolyn Harding claiming third spot on countback after their 43 point haul.
