Despite some horrendous weather delays from torrential rain and gale force winds, the quality of golf on show during The Open at St Andrews was fantastic. With so many highlights during a week which saw Zach Johnson win on 15 under par following a play-off with Louis Oosthuizen and Mark Leishman, it is safe to say that you can't beat a week of major championship golf! Johnson's win again goes to show that sometimes precision trumps power as he was by no means the longest professional at St Andrews, but was definitely one of the straightest. Many thanks to all of you who entered this year's Open sweepstake, the lucky recipients of the pro shop vouchers go to:
72 Hole Board - First place - Russ Nubley (£225), tied second place - Barry Grundy and Steve Shew (£95), tied fourth place - Richard Parr and Cliff Sims (£15).
Cut Board - First place - Andy Dale (£225), tied second place - Michael Blackburn and Richard Boniface (£75).
McBirnie Fourball
Congratulations also go to Helen and Kelvin Moore who won the play-off for the McBirnie Fourball Better Ball after they defeated Pam and Richard Rust in an incredibly close match. After 18 holes the match came down to the final putt on the final green with Helen and Kelvin winning by a single point.
Wednesday Stableford
It has been fantastic to see so many of you take part in our Wednesday evening stableford and supper events in recent weeks. If you know you will be staying for dinner, please can you book a table directly with the catering department in advance as it helps Andrew and his team to plan and prepare for dinner service.
Celts vs. English Match
Finally, entries for this year's Celts vs. English match on Saturday, 26 September are now open via the sign-up sheet on the main noticeboard. The format of the day is arrival drinks, golf at 1pm, followed by a two course dinner and entertainment by Comedian John Ryan with the cost per person of £35.
Course Maintenance
Please be aware that Simon will be starting his second week of scheduled course maintenance on Monday, 3 August. During the following days there will be some disruption to the playing surfaces, with the work likely to be completed by the end of that week. Although it is frustrating to have to disrupt the playing surfaces in the middle of the summer, the course will reap the benefits later in the year and over the winter months.
