Captain's Day
On Saturday nearly 100 golfers took to the course bathed in glorious sunshine for this year's Captain's Day. In a highly competitive day's golf the winners were the team of Kevin Marchesi, Jody Nunn, Neil Turk and Jim Bennett who returned an excellent score of 84 points between them. Hot on their heels were Ian Bosley, David Bosley, Rob Pamphlett and David Greaves with 83 points while Malcom Ralston, John Notman-Watt, Paul Edwards and Glen Stiring took third spot with 82 points.
The festivities lasted well into the night with various auctions and charity draws. The current total raised on the day stands at approximately £8,000 which will go to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. A huge thank you to everyone who supported the day by either playing, providing prizes or bidding on auction items.
Ladies Invitation Day
Despite some pretty awful weather, the Ladies Invitational took place on yesterday with around 50 players taking to the course. Taking home the top prize was the pairing of Lynda Guppy and her guest Jane Anderson who returned a superb 38 points, a fabulous score considering the conditions they faced. Their winning margin was an impressive five points from their nearest challengers Penny Rattle/Puni Amin who came second on countback from Glynis Cook/Margaret Hazelden.
Matchplay
Matchplays entries are now open for some of the winter matchplay events. Those wishing to participate in either the Dutch Cup (Men's foursomes) or Snell Salver (Mixed Foursomes) can do so by signing up using the sheets on the main noticeboard. Entries for both events close on Sunday, 4 October.
Hole in one
It would appear that holes-in-one are like London buses - you don't see one for ages then two turn up at once! Following Chris Tribe's ace last week Ray Dudley managed the same feat last Friday when he found the hole with his tee shot on the 8th. Congratulations Ray!
Ladies EWGA Medal
First place - Sarah Parrish (nett 77) and in second place - Cathy Graves (nett 80).
Junior Masters Round Four
First place - Lawrence Young (nett 60), second place - Monty Holcombe (nett 61) and in third place - Tom Whiteley (nett 62).
FootJoy Shoe Fitting Day
We will once again be holding another FootJoy shoe fitting day on Wednesday, 21 October. For those of you thinking of investing in a new pair of shoes before the winter takes hold this is the perfect opportunity to get your feet measured by a member of the FootJoy team to ensure you get the best fit possible.
Due to the popularity of the event we held earlier in the year I would strongly advise booking and appointment as no guarantees can be made that you will be able to be seen on the day without one.
To book your spot please click here to contact the pro shop.
Pin Sheets
Along with our new scorecards which arrived a few weeks ago, we will now also be offering pin sheets for you to use throughout the round. These can be collected in the pro shop, or for those with a smartphone they can be viewed using the MyPinPoint golf app which is free to download from either the iTunes or Google Play stores.
Sign In Sheets
Members are reminded to please sign in at the pro shop before heading out onto the course. While tee times will not be available to book in advance (apart from Saturday and Sunday mornings as per usual), this system will give us a better idea of who is on the course at any given time which will help us manage the flow of the course during busy periods and to advise other members of the best time to start later in the day.
Bridge Lessons
Bridge lessons for players that have a basic understanding of Bridge and would like to improve their bidding and declarer play will soon be available. Hosted by Mickey Poole, the lessons are due to start on Wednesday, 7 October at 7pm. Each session will cost £4 with all monies going to the respective club charities. To register your interest in the lessons please email Mickey directly on trackskills@gmail.com.
