This year's Surrey Open, which is a PGA National Open Series Order of Merit event, was played last week on Monday and Tuesday. As a national event it attracts one of the strongest fields in the country.
This year the scoring was particularly good. The course was in excellent condition and the pin positions on the second round would certainly raise a few eyebrows.
This year’s winner was Connor Coles from Wisley who followed his opening round of 65 with a second round 63, which started with five straight birdies! Over the two rounds Connor had sixteen birdies.
Josh Crumplin from Disley Golf Club finished second on -11 and Jordon Loft from Princes finished third on -10. For the two rounds, thirty-six of the players finished under par. A full list of scores can be found by clicking here.
Interesting Fact: Conor Coles, this year’s winner, is Neil Coles’s grandson, and the Coles family have quite a record in this competition. Neil has previously won this tournament and Connor’s father also almost got his name on the trophy having narrowly missed out in a playoff. For those that do not know, Neil Coles MBE was inducted into the “World Golf Hall of Fame” in 2000. He was a hugely talented British professional golfer who played in eight Ryder Cup Matches and was known for his fear of flying.
